Who we are
amillionmonkeys Translate is run by amillionmonkeys ltd. (amillionmonkeys.co.uk). It turns Google Docs and Google Slides files into XLIFF files for translation, and creates translated copies from translated XLIFF files. Contact: phil@amillionmonkeys.co.uk.
What we access
- Your Google account’s basic profile: your email address, name and profile picture, which show who is signed in.
- Only the Google Drive files you choose: the app uses the
drive.filepermission, so it can open files you select in the Google file picker and files it creates for you. It can’t see the rest of your Drive.
What we do with it
- Read the text and formatting of a chosen file to generate an XLIFF file, which is downloaded to your device.
- Save a snapshot copy of that file in an “amillionmonkeys Translate / Snapshots” folder in your own Drive.
- Create a translated copy of the file in your own Drive when you import a translated XLIFF.
- If you choose machine translation, send the text to the Google Cloud Translation API for translation. Google processes it under its Cloud terms.
What we store
We don’t run a database, and we don’t keep copies of your files or XLIFF content on our servers. Files are processed in memory while a request runs. Your Google sign-in tokens are kept in an encrypted, HTTP-only cookie in your browser so you stay signed in (for up to 30 days), and are deleted when you sign out. Our host (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, such as IP addresses and timestamps, for operating and securing the service.
Sharing
We don’t sell, rent or share your data, and we don’t use it for advertising or to train AI models. This app’s use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices
Sign out at any time to delete the session cookie. You can revoke the app’s access in your Google Account permissions. Snapshots and translated copies are ordinary files in your Drive, so you can delete them whenever you like. For questions or data requests, email us at the address above.
